It’s about time I can cross Afternoon Tea off my must-do London list. As a last date with my flat mates, we dressed up and put our pinkies out at Soho’s Secret Tea Room.
We entered through the bar and up a back narrow, spiral staircase to find a kitschy little room with mix-matched china and dainty music. We sat, ate and gossiped for hours just like any good session of tea. The sandwiches included cream cheese and chive, cream cheese and cucumber, and egg salad. They were dainty and light compared to course number two. The tiers had warm scones with clotted cream and jam, a slice of orange cake, a slice of chocolate mouse cake, a slice of coconut cake, a vanilla cupcake, a few fairy cakes like a banaoffe tart, a slice of raspberry phyllo cake and a chocolate, cream and walnut biscuit. So with a proper sugar coma, we sat with our pots of tea and enjoyed our last outing together.
Some of us are about to take off and some of us are off to continue exploring, but I know this won’t be the last of us. With such adventurous hearts, it’s hard to imagine that we won’t be sleeping on each other’s couches and regrouping at halfway points in the future. We are all so different, but that’s precisely why it has worked out. So to all of you who have joined me on this adventure, but especially Kaleo, Kelle, Renée, Mary and Jordan: travel home safe, but please never be too far.
